Rockschool Acoustic Guitar
From Rockschool's website: "The Benchmark for Acoustic Guitarists. Whether you’re taking your first steps on guitar or moving into further/higher education, a Rockschool Guitar Grade will not only improve your playing ability, but expand your technical proficiency and give you a solid grasp of music theory – all whilst learning some of the most iconic tracks from the world of popular music".
I have been teaching Rockschool Acoustic Guitar since they launched the syllabus in 2016. They have been the leading rock exam board since 1991. They have selected songs from some of the world's biggest artist from a big range of genres. This provides students with an expansive song choice to use for their exams, or just to jam out.
"As with every Rockschool syllabus, Acoustic Guitar combines unrivalled industry relevance with academic credibility, giving students a wealth of technical, stylistic and theoretical knowledge that’s second to none." From https://www.rslawards.com/rockschool/graded-exams/acoustic-guitar/
The Rockschool Acoustic syllabus has a slight twist to it, that makes it unique from the electric syllabus, and yet so relevant for aspiring guitar players. Each book contains four session-style songs and two instrument-specific songs. The session style songs feature recorded vocals, and the guitar supplies the accompaniment to this. The instrument-specific songs are solo guitar arrangements.
All of the Acoustic Guitar books are available on Rockschool's website for instant digital download. These downloads include the books, full tracks of the songs, backtracks, and supporting tests. This allows you to use the resources on any digital device.
With Grades 6, 7 and 8, students are awarded UCAS Points. With grade 8 you can get up to 30 UCAS points, with which to enhance your university application.
